Education and Training

Dr. Walker's roots in the Michiana community run deep, and his educational path reflects both local pride and genuine academic commitment.

Early Education and Undergraduate Studies

A native of the Michiana area, Dr. Walker graduated locally from John Adams High School before earning his undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington, building the scientific foundation that would carry him into a career in healthcare.

Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Walker received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry, one of the most respected optometry programs in the country. His connection to Boling Vision Center began well before he joined the team as a provider: he completed one of his medical externships here in 2008, an experience that gave him an early look at the culture and standard of care that would eventually bring him back as a full member of the team.

I sincerely enjoy helping people with their visual needs daily. A quality patient-doctor relationship is very important to me. I want patients to enjoy their experience and feel they are receiving very thorough and efficient comprehensive eye exams.

Community Involvement

Dr. Walker's commitment to the Michiana community extends beyond his clinical practice through his active volunteer work with Kindness to Prevent Blindness.

He volunteers for the K2PB mobile eye care unit, traveling to schools across Elkhart and St. Joseph County to provide free eye exams and prescription glasses to students in the grade levels required by the Indiana Department of Education.

For a provider who has spent his career in the community where he grew up, the opportunity to ensure that children in his own backyard have the vision care they need to succeed in school is one he takes seriously and personally.

Beyond the Practice

Dr. Walker lives in the Michiana area with his wife, Dr. Nancy Walker, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist of whom he is enormously proud, and their son Mark Walker III, whom he describes as having changed their lives in every possible way. The Walker family loves to travel and enjoys time on the lake, the kind of life that Dr. Walker brings a genuine sense of gratitude and presence to every day.

Having practiced at Boling Vision Center for over a decade, Dr. Walker reflects on his tenure here with real affection. The relationships he has built with his guests over the years are not incidental to his work. They are, by his own account, among the most important things in it.
