Undergraduate Education

From 1981 to 1985, Dr. Egan attended Indiana University as an Evans Scholar, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1985. The Evans Scholarship, awarded to outstanding caddies demonstrating academic excellence and financial need, reflects the character and work ethic that defined Dr. Egan's approach to everything he undertook.

Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Egan received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1989, joining Boling Vision Center in 1993 and building over the following decades one of the most extensive and respected optometric careers in Northern Indiana.

I'm not officially a world-renowned optometrist, but I have continued to practice optometry with integrity, compassion, and excellence for nearly 25 years anyway. My devotion to my God, family, patients, and job keeps me incredibly fulfilled. I thoroughly enjoy the time I get to spend with my patients and look forward to connecting with them at every visit.

Professional Contributions

Dr. Egan's commitment to the profession extended well beyond his clinical practice through his role as an educator for the next generation of optometrists.

He served as an adjunct clinical faculty member for both the Indiana University School of Optometry and the Michigan College of Optometry, mentoring students and externs who came through Boling Vision Center and contributing to the training of providers who carry his influence into practices across the region. His willingness to invest in the development of others reflected the same generosity of spirit that his guests experienced in every appointment.

Community Involvement

Dr. Egan's commitment to the Michiana community was expressed through his longstanding volunteer work with Kindness to Prevent Blindness, traveling to schools across Elkhart and St. Joseph County to provide free eye exams and prescription glasses to students who needed them.

For a provider whose practice was built on genuine relationships with the families of Northern Indiana, the opportunity to reach the youngest members of that community at the earliest stages of their visual development was one he embraced with characteristic warmth and dedication.
