What Is a Cataract?
The eye's natural lens sits behind the iris and is normally clear, allowing light to pass through and focus precisely on the retina. A cataract develops when proteins in the lens begin to break down and clump together, causing it to cloud gradually over time.
Most cataracts are a natural result of aging and develop slowly, often over years, before producing noticeable vision changes. Common symptoms include blurry or hazy vision, increased glare and halos around lights, fading colors, difficulty seeing in low-light conditions, and more frequent changes in glasses prescription. The only effective treatment for cataracts is surgical removal and replacement with a premium artificial lens. No medication, drop, or supplement reverses or halts cataract development.
