PRK vs. LASIK

Like LASIK vision correction, photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is performed to change the shape of the cornea so light will focus properly on the retina. PRK is a refractive procedure used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Many patients can achieve 20/20 vision after PRK – allowing them to enjoy life in the Michiana area to its fullest!

Unlike LASIK, which creates a corneal flap during the first step of the procedure, PRK takes place on the surface of the eye after removing a thin layer of surface corneal tissue.

With PRK the healing time is slightly longer than with LASIK, with good vision being achieved in about 5 to 8 days. PRK is slightly less comfortable the first week following the procedure as well. This slight discomfort is only temporary and will be addressed prior to your PRK procedure.
