Cornea Care

Protect Your Cornea

Closeup of a Cornea

The cornea is the outer layer of your eye. Its function is to protect the eye from external debris and control how light enters the eye. Minor surface damage to the cornea typically heals quickly. However, if the cornea is severely damaged or diseased, your vision will be greatly affected.

At Boling Vision Center we provide referral recommendations for a variety of corneal problems:

  • Corneal transplants with Penetrating Keratoplasty (PKP)
  • Corneal transplants with DSAEK eye surgery
  • Keratoconus treatment
  • Intacs® corneal implants

If the cornea is beyond repair, it may need to be removed and replaced with clear, healthy corneal tissue from an eye donor. The standard PKP process involves removing the full thickness corneal tissue.

Keratoconus Treatment

Keratoconus occurs when the cornea becomes so thin that the normal eye pressure causes the cornea to bulge into a cone shape. Rigid contact lenses can help address this problem and improve vision.
