* LASIK cannot be performed if your eyes are dry. If dry eye is diagnosed during your consultation, Dr. Boling will prescribe dry eye treatment. This will include the use of Restasis and artificial tears.

** foreign body sensation: feeling like something is in your eye (like an eyelash)

** Halos, starburst, and vision fluctuation are usually due to post-operative dryness. This lasts for 4 to 12 weeks depending on age and gender. Artificial tears are used to help with these symptoms. People with very dry eyes should not have LASIK. There is a simple test that is performed at your exam to determine the health of your tear film. Halos, starburst, and vision fluctuations also occur in people whose pupils dilate beyond 8mm in the dark. During your pre-LASIK exam, Dr. Boling uses a pupilometer to determine the size of your pupils in total darkness. He will inform you if halos or starburst would be a long-term side effect.
